During the Fall of 2021 and Spring of 2023, YSF worked with external service providers to conduct DEIA self-assessments surveys with staff and other organizational stakeholders. In both cases the vendors provided access to numerical data but did nothing with narrative responses. My qualitative analysis of staff open-ended responses provided the real story behind the rating scales – sometimes reversing what the numbers seemed to suggest.

Culturally responsible best practices guide all research efforts at YSF. Special attention is given to access, including producing all externally facing protocols in English, Spanish and Chinese, at a minimum.
