The YMCA of San Francisco had a complex, tri-lingual paper survey monitoring system for youth development programs. I automated survey production to streamline the process for thousands of participants per cycle. When COVID lock downs drastically changed youth programming, I adapted all parent and youth monitoring surveys for new in-person conditions and ground-breaking virtual programs, including creating electronic versions of instruments. Over the years, I trained staff to take the reins and continue to consult as needed.
In addition to in-house surveys, the organization uses program quality assessment systems from the David P. Weikart Center for Youth Program Quality. I was certified to score the tool and train other users.
In two cases I have been able to talk with youth, observe programs and/or do surveys for evaluative studies: Youth Court, Youth Empowerment Fund.
DEI is central to all work at YSF, in the case of program monitoring, accessibility is a central issue. All externally-facing work is done in three languages and on paper as well as on line.
