This exciting consortium works to expand youth access to nature. I was the project lead for a considerable pilot effort to survey youth across San Francisco during 2018-19. The research included participants in “equity” and “non-equity” zones and looked at youth perceptions of nature and their place in it, and their access to it. The consortium collaborated with public and private schools and various non-profits and media outlets to gather data and share results. I designed and oversaw a shared data analysis system to engage volunteers, and provide transparency and access. Findings garnered the attention of the National League of Cities and inspired other cities in the Children in Nature network to conduct similar surveys.
