The Open Quantum Initiative Undergraduate Fellowship Program seeks to diversify the field of quantum science. During the summer program, participants conduct actual research projects mentored by professors and post-docs at several sites in the Chicago area. I was invited to review and refine a multi-modal evaluation to examine social and personal impacts of the program on participants, and influences on their academic and professional plans. I will continue on the project to provide staff training and oversight re: data analysis and reporting. Evaluation findings inform program improvement and future publications by the University and other project partners.

Funding for the Open Quantum Initiative is provided by: Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, University of Chicago, Q-NEXT and DOE at Argonne National Laboratory, DOE at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, Illinois Quantum Information Science and Technology Center at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Institute for Hybrid Quantum Architectures and Networks at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, and The Ohio State University.
